Overcoming Murphy’s Law at Charity Benefit Auctions - Part 1 - “I Can’t See What’s Behind the Centerpiece!”

Charity benefit auctions play a crucial role in overall fundraising strategy, and ensuring their success is a priority for all involved. Recently, one of my auctioneers recounted a challenging event marked by poor lighting, obstructive pillars, and oversized centerpieces that hindered bidder engagement. Identifying and removing these barriers early in the planning process is essential.

Often, well-meaning staff and vendors may aim for a visually stunning venue but inadvertently create complications. For instance, if a bidder is hidden behind a pillar or floral arrangements obstruct views, valuable opportunities are lost. Additionally, a weak or malfunctioning sound system can drive attendees away, undermining the event's success.
